Sept 30th - 8th grade

Then you may try "scatter" a couple of times to see how fast you can match the cards.

Sept 29 - 8th

Students who did not turn in their worksheet from Tuesday were assigned the lunch bunch.

We then played element bingo. Students made their cards from a list of possible answers. Teacher read clues and students found the element symbol on their periodic table.

Sept 28 - 8th

Class had a discussion about the reason it is called a "periodic" table.

We then did the element card activity.


And finished back in the room working on the energy levels WS.

Students turned in their worksheet.

Students also put a copy of the periodic table in the back of their notebook and colored the groups in their mini periodic table.

We finished discussing the mini periodic table trends and properties.

Sept 26 - 7th

Checked grades and wrote that our projects were due Wednesdsay.

Finished our presentation on levels of organization.



Students worked on the levels of organization questions (page 15 Review and Brain work).


Sept 26 - 8th

Students had time to check grades, get caught up on notebook stuff from friday, work on homework that is due tomorrow and get page 2 set up in their notebook.

We went over traits of groups on page 20 of the notebook.

Sept 23 - 7th

Students worked on their foldable to show the levels of organization that allow life. We will continue working on this on Monday. For those that missed class, here is a reading on the topic.

Cell brochures are due Wednesday.

Sept 23 - 8th

We finished going over "It All Adds Up"

We did review and brain work questions together.

Did the notebook page on Periodic Table squares.

Did the review questions in our notebook.

Handed out and began working on Atomic Mass and Atomic Number WS. This is due on Wednesdsay. Whew! What a busy day...

Sept 22 - 7th grade

Students learned how to use the source card template to cite sources.

Students had the remainder of the period to research cell parts.

Cell brochure is due on wednesday.

Sept 22 - 8th grade

We took the Scientist Timeline Quiz.

We had a class discussion about the questions on page 15 in our notebook. We also discussed Bohr's model and the electron cloud model.

We finished by discussing, "It All Adds Up!"

Sept 21st - 7th grade

Students began doing research for their cell parts brochure. They were given a rubric (blue) and a notes page to fill out (white). Students were also given 3 choices of websites to use to fill in their notes page. See below:

Sept 20 - 7th grade

We went over correct answers for the discovering life experiments assignment.

Students were asked to put these in their notebooks on page 12 in the correct order (chronologically).

Began discussing the cell brochure project to students. Brochure is due Wed Sept 28.

Sept 20 - 8th grade

Students put their build an atom papers into their notebooks. They also got their Basics of Atoms WS back (graded). We went over correct answers to the worksheet.

We then finished the Scientist Timeline lecture. Quiz on this information will be Thursday. Students need to know the order of the scientists, what they found for us, and the main particles in the nucleus.

Students also placed page 12 in their notebook.

Homework is to study for the quiz and write a definition for an ion.

Sept 19 - 7th grade

Students checked grades and wrote them in their data notebooks.

We finished going over the Where living things come from prezi.

The class discussed correct answer to the Living things WS. This worksheet became page 13 of our notebook.

Finally, we worked on looking at some famous experiments/hypotheses that relate to how life can begin. We will finish this tomorrow.


Sept 19 - 8th grade

Students checked grades and wrote them in their data notebooks.

We discussed answers and highlighted key ideas from the build an atom assignment.

We began discussing how the atom was discovered and the contribution of 4 key scientists. We will finish this tomorrow. Here is the prezi.

Sept 16 - 7th

We started class by putting our worksheet from yesterday into page 11 of our notebooks. We then discussed answers to that worksheet.

Students then did a worksheet to demonstrate knowledge of how to know if things are living or non-living. When they were done they read pages 19-21 in the green text book.

We finished up class with a lecture on where life comes from. The prezi can be found here from that lecture.

Sept 16 - 8th

Students finished working on their build an atom assignment.

They then read about the history of the atom. We will discuss this more on Monday.

Students also worked on Moby Max. This is not required of students who were absent.

Sept 15 - 7th

Students finished their foldable and glued it into page 10 of their notebook.

Students were putting into groups and worked on determining if things were living or not living using their foldable. Also, we graded labs from last week with some options to earn points back.

Sept 15 - 8th

We went over the results of the bag lab. The students did really well and most guesses had a good amount of detail.
Students began working on the build an atom assignment. Worksheet was given in class.

Sept 14 - 7th

We discussed traits of living things. We will finish our foldable tomorrow and place it in our notebooks.

Sept 14 - 8th

Collected WS from last night.

Answered the question from yesterday, "is air matter?" We blew up a balloon so the air took up space. When placed on a balance, the balloon had more mass with the extra air in it....air is matter.

Did the bag lab. Results will be forthcoming tomorrow.

Sept 13 - 7th

Students were shown where extra copies of papers would be located in the room.

Students worked with the teacher to make a foldable for this section.

Students are to read this section and have their lab done for tomorrow.

Sept 13 - 8th

Went over correct answer to page 8 and 9 in notebook. Had some real cool class discussions.

Sept 12 - 7th

Students checked their grades and wrote them in their data notebook.

Students began working on their golf ball lab. Students in 6th hour will need to turn their notebooks in tomorrow. 7th and 8th hour will turn theirs in on Wednesday.

Sept 12 - 8th

Students turned in their room design projects.

Students checked their grades and wrote them in their data notebooks.

sept 9 - 7th

Students began class by using a lab rubric to "grade" their meter stick lab. The meter stick lab was graded by the teacher based on completion.

Students then began working on their golf ball lab. This is a student designed lab to test the effects of different surfaces on the height a golf ball bounces. This will go on page 8 and 9 of their notebook.

Sep 8 - 7th

Students completed their meter stick drop trials.

We then discussed ways to analyze data from labs. Here is the presentation.

Students were to finish their analyzing (page 7) before they come back tomorrow.

Sept 9 - 8th


Class discussed the meaning of the terms scientific theory and law. We used the following resources to complete the notebook page 6.

Students then used the rest of the class time to work on their project. While they were doing this, I walked around and graded the parts of the project that students had done. Any grade that was not a "4" on the rubric, can be altered and turned in before Tuesday to raise the score.

Students used tablets to check their grades. Grades were written in their data notebooks.

We discussed how to do the meter stick drop lab.

Students worked on testing the meter stick drop lab.

Sep 7 - 8th grade

Students checked their grades on the tablets and copied them to their planners.

We discussed the design final drafts (where the paper was, putting the walls on first, etc).

Students worked on their final drafts. Tomorrow will be the last day to work on the design in class. Designs are due Monday, Sept 12th.

We went over class expectations.

After, we started working on the meter stick drop lab.

Sept 6 - 8th

Students continued working on their room designs. By the end of class today, they should have finished their measurements, completed rough drafts, and selected a design to do as their final design.

Sep 2 - 7th grade

We discussed answers to the last variable questions.

Students took a quiz on edmodo about variables. Grades are on-line.

Students worked on the draw a scientist for page 1 in their notebook.

I sent out an email to all parents that put one on the bottom of the parent signature sheet.

Sept 2 - 8th

Students continued working on their room designs. Lots of measuring, discussing constraints, and drawing rough drafts.

Sep 1 - 7th

As a class, we discussed the variable WS. Students then worked as partners to answer 2 more of the variable questions. Finally, students worked on their own to answer 2 questions.

Students glued the variable WS and the Problem statement WS into page 5 of their notebooks.

Sept 1 - 8th

Students were put into groups for the room measure project.

Groups chose the topic they would design.

Students began working on constraints and measuring.
